Housing Resources

THERE ARE SEVERAL AGENCIES AVAILABLE TO YOU WHEN EXPLORING YOUR

HOUSING OPTIONS IN CENTRAL FLORIDA.

These include:

SeniorHousingNet
This site allows you to search by city and state for a wide range of housing options (active retirement communities, independent living, assisted living, nursing homes, continuing care retirement communities, and housing for people with Alzheimer’s). Also included on this site are articles on related topics such as the different types of senior housing, how to select senior housing, and your financing options.
AARP
This site provides consumer information on a range of housing topics. Here you will find articles and checklists on home modification and safety issues, nursing homes, assisted living, continuing care retirement communities, housing options such as home sharing, and more. The information is geared towards all types of housing situations from living on your own to living with full-time care.
How Well Does Your Home Meet Your Needs?:
This article and assessment tool, originally from AARP, guides you through looking at your current home to determine if it is supporting your safety and independence. This article includes a short quiz to evaluate specific aspects of your home for safety and usability, for example, whether you can easily open and close your windows. It also provides some tips on how you can modify your current home to make it more “user-friendly”.
Housing and Neighborhood Development Services of Central Florida
Housing and Neighborhood Development Services (HANDS) of Central Florida assists you with buying an affordable home or renting an apartment. The website enables you to search by zip code for an affordable apartment in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Lake County. This site also lists new or rehabbed affordable homes that have prices listed below the standard market rate. HANDS provides comprehensive private housing counseling sessions and homebuyer education seminars; see this site for dates, locations, and registration information.
